This project was the conversion of a derelict school building into two semi-detached houses, modern yet maintaining the original appearance of the red sandstone building which dated back to 1750. Conversion of this type of building inevitably presents unique challenges of maintaining the existing facades which were designed for classrooms while meeting the requirements of modern living spaces. A contemporary rebuild of the rear wall of the building, which had been demolished during redevelopment of the surrounding area, meant the incorporation of large areas of south facing glazed openings allowed light to penetrate deep into the building resulting in a bright airy feeling to the houses throughout the year.

The project was recognised by the local community with the local  Heritage Group giving it a Heritage Preservation Award for the sympathetic restoration of the building.
