Our client occupies a traditional detached house fronting Buchanan Street within a conservation area in the village of Balfron. The house has a large sloping garden to the rear with views to the Campsie Hills and Urbis were appointed to design two additional detached houses within the garden. Our client wanted to build an energy efficient house with low running costs as a retirement property and sell the other two houses on the site.

The layout utilises the existing vehicular access to the left of the existing house to service two L-shaped houses located adjacent to the north boundary of the site maximising views to the surrounding countryside at the same time as protecting their privacy. Simple forms with pitched slated roofs and render walls reflect the character of the existing buildings within the conservation area but are treated in a contemporary manner.
