Jill Malvenan is founder and co-director of Urbis. Since the practice inception in 1999 Jill has been responsible for design and project/design management of varied projects across the UK, including liaising between clients, conservation groups, and local and statutory authorities on design and procurement of conservation and development projects including those within historically sensitive sites.

In June 2010 Jill was appointed as Head of Design Review at Architecture and Design Scotland, where she was responsible for leading a team of experts in providing design advice on a wide variety projects across the country. Jill also lead the successful reforming of  Design Review to Design Forum before returning full time to Urbis in May 2014.  Jill had previously been an advisory board member to A+DS, and commissioner of the Royal Fine Arts Commission from Scotland from 1998 – 2005. She was also a judge on the Saltire Housing awards for a number of years, and a member of an advisory group to the Scottish Government on production of PAN “Design and Quality in New Housing”.


David Fleming joined Urbis in 2006 following more than 20 years in architectural practice including extensive experience in strategic workspace planning and design. He studied at the Mackintosh School of Architecture where he completed his Diploma in 1984. David returned to the Mackintosh School as RIBA external examiner from 1997—2000. He was awarded a Civic Trust Commendation in 1996 for the Staffordshire Wharf Events Arena in Manchester.

Since joining the practice in 2006, David has been involved in some of the larger residential projects within the office including Northgate Residential Development in Newark and the residential development of Clowne Campus in Derby as well as leading some of the hotel and retail projects such as the Lochside Hotel in New Cumnock  and the Maltings Retail Park in Newark on Trent.

He has extensive experience in the design and planning of the Workplace gained through working in private consultancy and for 6 years within a major global corporation as Planning Manager for Europe, Middle East and Africa where he led a team briefing and implementing innovative workplace solutions.
